Cutting (Reaping): A front header with a reel and knife section cuts the crop stalks close to the ground.
Threshing: A revolving cylinder and concave beat the cut material to separate the edible seeds from the husks and straw.
Separation & Cleaning: Straw walkers and sieves use airflow from internal fans to blow away lightweight chaff while clean grain falls into a storage tank.
Unloading: An extendable auger transfers the collected grain from the onboard tank into a waiting trailer or truck
The modern Multi Crop combine harvester, also called a combine, is a machine designed to harvest a variety of cultivated seeds. Combine harvesters are one of the most economically important labour-saving inventions, significantly reducing the fraction of the population engaged in agriculture.[1] Among the crops harvested with a combine are wheat, rice, oats, rye, barley, corn (maize), sorghum, millet, soybeans, flax (linseed), sunflowers and rapeseed (canola). The separated straw (consisting of stems and any remaining leaves with limited nutrients left in it) is then either chopped onto the field and ploughed back in, or laid out in rows, ready to be baled and used for bedding and cattle feed.
The crops are then cut down by the cutter bar and are then gathered by the revolving reel. Going through the conveyor to the threshing area, the cut crops are shaken and broken until the grains are separated from the stalks. The grains and the stalks have distinct futures and are meant to go their separate ways whereby the grains are collected in a collecting tank via the sieve which waits to be later unloaded onto a truck and the stalks along with the other unwanted stuff are passed towards the back of the machine which waits to be later thrown away onto a wide area or the ground they were harvested from
